When Creativity Feels Heavy: A Love Letter from the Deep End

I’ve been sitting with this for a while—this feeling of wanting to be seen. Not just for the pretty posts or the cozy crafts, but for the countless hours, late nights, quiet tears, and hopeful heartbeats I’ve poured into Root & Rising.

This blog—this space—is more than just a website. It’s a piece of me. Every post, every page, every bracelet and clay charm in the shop... all of it has been crafted with intention, love, and a deep desire to create something meaningful.

What you see on the blog or in the shop is just the tip of the iceberg. Behind every listing, there’s time spent shaping clay with care, reworking designs that didn’t quite feel right, waiting for lighting to be just right for photos, editing blog drafts late into the night, packaging with love, and quietly second-guessing myself more than I care to admit.

And lately? I’ve felt like I’m drowning.

Not in failure—but in the pressure.

The pressure to keep going. To keep producing. To keep being “on.”I don’t want pity. I just want to be honest.

I started this blog as a place to heal. A cozy corner where I could be real, soft, messy, magical. A place to grow. But somewhere along the way, my old people-pleasing patterns crept in. I started posting more and more, chasing recognition I wasn’t even sure I needed—just hoping someone would see me. Really see me.

And honestly?

Yes, I want to craft. I want to make beautiful things with my hands. I have so many ideas waiting to come to life.

But then this voice creeps in—Why the hell should I keep making more when no one is buying the stuff I already poured my heart into?

It’s not just discouragement. It’s anger. It’s sadness. It’s tired.

I’ve spent time, energy, and money on creating—and it’s hard not to feel like I’m shouting into the void, hoping someone will care enough to support me in a real way.

I’d like to make a little fucking money before I fucking spend more.

That’s not greedy. That’s survival. That’s self-respect. That’s the reality of being a maker in a world that often expects handmade magic to come free or cheap.

Is it just fucking me? Or do others feel like this too?

If you’re out there feeling this tension—between passion and burnout, between inspiration and financial reality—please know: you’re not alone. Truly.

Reclaiming My Magic: A Small Ritual for the Wounded Creator

Sometimes the medicine we need isn’t another push forward—it’s a moment to come home to ourselves.

If you’re feeling discouraged in your creativity, here’s a small ritual to gently reclaim your magic:

🌿 You’ll Need:

  • A candle (any color that feels like you)

  • A small item you’ve made (even unfinished is okay)

  • A warm drink or a cozy corner

  • A few deep breaths

🌕 The Ritual:

  1. Light the candle and sit with the item you’ve created. Hold it. Feel its story.

  2. Whisper: “This was made from love. This was made from me. That is enough.”

  3. Close your eyes and take three slow breaths, letting go of other people’s timelines, expectations, and algorithms with each exhale.

  4. Repeat this affirmation:

I create from soul, not pressure.

My worth is not measured in sales or likes.

My magic is enough—because I am enough.

  5. Blow out the candle when you’re ready, sealing the ritual with tenderness and truth.

A Note from the Maker’s Corner

I sometimes get caught up in trying to make everything perfect. Trying to please everyone. Trying to guess what might sell or what people might want to read.

But Root & Rising didn’t start from that place. It started as a sacred space to be real. And I’m returning to that.

I make sure everything I offer is something I would want for myself. Whether it’s a spell bundle, a pair of earrings, or a crystal bracelet—I won’t list it unless I would happily wear it, use it, or gift it. I care deeply about quality and intention, and I pour love into every detail.

But I’m also reminding myself... it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s handmade. It’s human. And that’s where the magic lives.

If you’ve ever thought about supporting me—through a purchase, a kind comment, a share, or just by being here—thank you. I carry your kindness with me like little fireflies in the dark.

And if you haven’t found something in the shop that speaks to you yet, I’d love to know:

Is there anything in particular you’d love to see in the shop?

A certain type of keychain? A color palette? A cozy seasonal vibe? A specific spell or magical tool?

You can leave a comment, message me, or tag me if something I made resonates with you. Your voice matters more than you know.

And if you’re local to me—I offer pickups or meetups for delivery, so you can skip the shipping and still receive your magic by hand. Just reach out.

I’ve also added a little Buy Me a Coffee/Tea link for anyone who wants to support what I do in a simple, cozy way.

Reflection & Invitation

What kinds of things bring you comfort lately?

Are there certain crafts, spells, recipes, or reflections you’d love to explore with me?

What helps you feel rooted, connected, or inspired?

I read every word you share. Whether you’re quietly reading from afar or actively joining in—thank you for being part of this journey with me.

Here’s to the messy, magical in-between—where we’re still creating, still healing, and still finding our way.

Blessed Be,

Bobbi Ann
