Softening the Noise: Reflecting on Carnelian & Beginning Howlite

Weekly Crystal Check-In: Carnelian

I was really excited to work with Carnelian this week, and I can honestly say… I noticed its energy.

It wasn’t subtle for me like some of the others have been.

I felt more inspired to be creative. Not in a forced way, but in a way that made it easier to just start. Ideas felt a little more natural, and I didn’t feel as stuck when it came to actually doing something with them.

I also felt more relaxed and at ease for the most part. There was a steadiness to the energy that I wasn’t really expecting, but I appreciated it.

That being said, I did still have days where I struggled with my inner thoughts.

And I think that’s important to say.

Just because I’m working with these crystals doesn’t mean everything suddenly becomes perfect. There are still hard moments. Still days where my mind feels a little heavier.

But I do think Carnelian helped soften that. Helped me move through it instead of getting completely stuck in it.

It felt supportive.

I’m already finding myself curious about how it might feel paired with Clear Quartz at some point, just to see if that amplifies the energy even more.

But for now, I’m really glad I gave it space to stand on its own.

Stepping Into This Week: Howlite

This week, I’ll be working with Howlite.

After a week of movement, creativity, and taking small steps forward, Howlite feels like a shift into something softer again.

From what I understand, Howlite is often connected to calm, patience, and quieting the mind. Which, honestly, feels like something I need right now.

Especially after noticing that even with the motivation from Carnelian, my inner thoughts still had their moments.

So this week feels less about doing…

and more about softening.

Less about action…

and more about finding stillness within it.

I’m curious to see how this one feels.

This Week’s Crystal: Howlite

Howlite feels like a very different energy compared to Carnelian.

Where Carnelian felt warm, motivating, and gently pushing me forward, Howlite feels like it’s asking me to slow down.

To breathe.

To soften.

To quiet the noise a little.

Howlite is often known as a stone of calm, patience, and emotional awareness. It’s commonly used to help ease an overactive mind and bring a sense of stillness, especially during moments where thoughts feel overwhelming.

And honestly, that already feels aligned with what I noticed last week.

Even with Carnelian's motivation and creativity, I still had moments when my inner thoughts felt loud.

So stepping into Howlite feels intentional.

Not to fix anything…but to support myself in those moments a little differently.

Energy & Chakra Connection

Howlite is most often connected to the crown chakra, which is associated with awareness, clarity, and connection.

But in a more grounded way, I think of it as helping with:

  • slowing racing thoughts

  • creating mental space

  • responding instead of reacting

It’s not about shutting your thoughts off.

It’s about creating space to notice them without immediately getting pulled in.

A Bit of Background

Howlite is a white stone with soft gray veining running through it. Its appearance feels just as gentle as its energy.

It was first discovered in Canada in the 1800s and is sometimes used as a substitute for other stones because it can be dyed easily. But in its natural form, it’s simple, soft, and understated.

And I kind of love that.

It doesn’t feel flashy.

It feels quietly supportive.

How I’ll Be Working With Howlite This Week

Going into this week, I want to approach things differently.

After the movement from Carnelian, this week feels like it’s asking for stillness.

Before I begin, I’ll be cleansing my Howlite with palo santo smoke. Taking that moment to pause and reset helps me feel more grounded.

After that, I’ll hold the crystal and set a simple intention.

Right now, I’m leaning toward:

“My mind is calm.”

or

“I allow myself to slow down.”

Something gentle. Something I can come back to when I need it.

This week, I plan to:

  • Carry or wear my Howlite daily

  • Keep it close during quiet moments

  • Check in with my thoughts instead of reacting right away

I’m not expecting my mind to suddenly be quiet.

But even creating a small pause feels meaningful.

A Simple Calming Ritual with Howlite

1. Find a quiet moment

Sit comfortably and take a few slow breaths.

2. Cleanse your crystal

Use Palo Santo smoke or simply breathe and reset.

3. Hold your Howlite

Place it in your hand or near your heart.

4. Set your intention

“My mind is calm.”

or

“I allow myself to slow down.”

5. Sit with your thoughts

Notice them without judgment.

6. Close gently

Take a breath and return to your day.

If You’re Working Alongside Me (or All on Your Own)

I’d really love to hear how this week feels for you.

Whether you’re following along with me or exploring this on your own, your experience matters just as much.

You can reflect in your own way:

  • When does your mind feel the busiest?

  • Do you notice any moments of calm, even small ones?

  • What helps you slow down when you need it?

There’s no right way to experience this.

Just your way.

Weekly Reflection Questions

At the end of the week, I’ll be reflecting on:

  • Did I notice any moments of calm?

  • Was it easier to pause before reacting?

  • Did my intention help throughout the day?

  • What did Howlite show me about my thoughts?
