Rooted Mornings: Finding What Feeds My Soul

Most mornings, I wake up, make a cup of coffee, and then settle into the same habit: playing games on my tablet for an hour—sometimes more. It’s comforting in its own way. Familiar. It helps me ease into the day without too much thought.
But lately, I’ve been wondering if there’s a better way.
Is this how I want to begin my day—distracted and disconnected? The answer, softly, is no.
I’m craving something different. Something more intentional. Something that helps me start the day feeling satisfied, motivated, and gently productive—without losing the slow, cozy vibe I love.
So I’ve started a quiet little experiment:🌿 Finding a morning ritual that feels like home.
A Habit vs. A Ritual
I’ve realized there’s a big difference between a habit and a ritual.
A habit is automatic, something I do without thinking.
A ritual is intentional, something I choose on purpose.
One often distracts, the other connects. One passes time; the other holds it tenderly.
I’m not trying to shame myself out of my habits. I’m simply noticing what leaves me feeling nourished versus what leaves me feeling numb. And then slowly… gently… inviting something better.

What I’m Trying Instead
I haven’t built the perfect morning ritual yet (and maybe that’s not the point), but here are a few small things I’ve started trying in place of immediately reaching for my tablet:
Sitting with my coffee and watching the sky shift—just five minutes of presence
Lighting a candle and saying a quiet blessing for the day
Pulling a tarot card and writing a line or two about how it makes me feel
Stretching while music plays softly in the background
Stepping outside to breathe in the morning air—barefoot if I can
Drinking a tea I’ve made from foraged herbs like red clover or lemon balm
Some mornings, I still slip back into old habits. That’s okay. But more and more, I’m choosing moments that root me instead of distract me. Moments that remind me: I’m allowed to begin slowly. I’m allowed to choose differently.
Letting It Evolve
I don’t have it all figured out. My ritual isn’t locked in or polished. But that’s what makes it real. It’s evolving as I evolve.
Some mornings, I journal. Others, I simply sit. Some days feel magical. Others feel like a sleepy stumble toward the coffee pot. But every time I choose something with intention—even something tiny—it shifts something inside me.
And I think that’s what a true ritual does. It reconnects you with yourself.
A Gentle Invitation
If you’re reading this and your mornings feel rushed, empty, or disconnected—know that you’re not alone. Maybe you’re craving a change, too. Maybe you want to start the day with more peace, more clarity, more you.
You don’t have to do it all at once. You don’t need a perfect plan. Just try one small thing that feels kind. Something sacred. Something real.
And let it build from there.
Blessed Be,
Bobbi Ann
Softly starting.
Gently becoming.
Always learning.
