This week, we are stepping into the soft, earthy presence of The Empress—card III in the Major Arcana. After the quiet inner wisdom of The High Priestess, The Empress welcomes us with open arms into warmth, creativity, and comfort. In Beginner’s Guide to Tarot, she represents the nurturing aspect of the divine feminine, and her energy feels like a cozy garden in full bloom.
What I See in the Card

In my deck, illustrated by Giovanni Caselli, The Empress sits comfortably on a cushioned throne outdoors, surrounded by golden wheat fields and fruit trees. She wears a flowing patterned gown and a golden crown with twelve stars—symbols of the zodiac and the cycles of the seasons. In her lap, she holds a bundle of wheat, not as something to give or wield, but as something she has tended and harvested with care.
She feels calm and generous, like someone who knows the value of patience. She doesn’t force growth—she nurtures it. The whole scene feels like a reminder that things take root when they’re loved and given space to bloom.
There is no rush in this card. Everything is ripening in its own time. She feels like an embodiment of care, creation, and abundance.
What I’m Learning
Juliet Sharman-Burke shares that The Empress symbolizes:
🌼 Nurturing energy and motherhood
🌼 Fertility of all kinds—creativity, ideas, healing
🌼 Beauty, comfort, and emotional security
🌼 Connection to nature and the body
🌼 The creative feminine principle
To me, The Empress feels like an invitation to soften. To make room for things to grow naturally. And to remember that tending to myself with care is just as sacred as caring for others.
Upright vs. Reversed
If you read reversals, The Empress reversed might speak to neglect—either of others or yourself. It could show up as blocked creativity, over-giving, or emotional overwhelm. But since I’m still learning, I’m choosing to read my cards upright for now and focus on their primary essence.
Reflections
This card made me think about:
🌿 Am I giving myself the same care and compassion I offer others?
🌿 What is growing in my life right now—physically, creatively, or emotionally?
🌿 How can I reconnect with nature or honor my body in a gentle way this week?
A Gentle Invitation
🌼 Pull The Empress from your deck or look at her image.
🌼 Sit quietly with her for a few moments—what stands out to you?
🌼 Ask yourself:
— What does nurturing look like for me right now?
— What am I ready to create or bring to life?
— What small beauty can I celebrate in this moment?
Blessed Be,
Rooted in warmth and blooming with care,
Bobbi Ann
