Welcome to this week’s Tarot With Me, where we begin our journey with The Fool—a symbol of new paths, fresh starts, and trusting the unknown.
Welcome to the first official post in my Tarot With Me series! I’m starting with The Fool, which feels like such a natural and symbolic beginning. I’m new to tarot, and The Fool is the first card in the Major Arcana—numbered 0, which is kind of magical in itself. It’s a number full of possibility, like an open door.
What I’m Learning About The Fool
The Fool is often shown as a traveler standing on the edge of a cliff, sometimes with a small bag and a loyal little dog at their side. Their head is lifted toward the sky, eyes full of wonder, almost like they don’t notice how close they are to the edge. It’s not that they’re careless—they’re just trusting.
Traditionally, The Fool represents:
🌿 New beginnings
🌿 Taking a leap of faith
🌿 Innocence and wonder
🌿 Trusting the journey
🌿 Stepping into the unknown
As someone just starting to learn tarot, I see myself in this card. I don’t know exactly where this journey will take me. I don’t have all the answers. But I’m here, open-hearted and curious, stepping into the magic one card at a time.
Upright vs. Reversed
Some tarot readers choose to read cards both upright and reversed (when the card appears upside down in a spread). If you're one of those readers, here’s what The Fool reversed might mean:
When the Fool appears reversed, it suggests caution in decision-making and a need to find balance between spontaneity and responsibility. It can indicate living in the moment, but also behaving recklessly or being irrational. In a spiritual context, the Fool reversed may point to a new path being explored, but with the reminder not to jump too far into it until it feels right.
As for me, I’m currently choosing to read my cards upright only. Since I’m still learning, reading reversals feels a little overwhelming right now. I may change my approach in the future, but for now, this feels right—and I think that’s important when building your own relationship with tarot.
Reflections
This card reminds me that it’s okay not to know everything. It’s okay to start something without a clear path. Sometimes the most beautiful parts of life begin with a single, uncertain step.
Maybe you’re starting something new too—a practice, a project, a path you’ve been afraid to walk. If so, The Fool is cheering you on. There’s power in showing up, even if you don’t feel “ready.”
A Gentle Invitation
If you’d like, pull The Fool from your own deck (or look it up online) and sit with it for a moment.
🕊 What stands out to you?
🕊 What are you beginning in your life right now?
🕊 Where might you need to trust a little more, even if the way forward is unclear?
If you'd like to share your reflections in the comments, I'd love to hear how The Fool speaks to you.
Blessed Be,
Leaping gently into the unknown,
Bobbi Ann
